Roasted Cricket Nacho Recipe from Cricket Flours

Things are heating up in the kitchen, and these Cricket Nachos pack a punch…but only if you want them too. I recently had a request from a friend to bring over some samples of our roasted crickets, but he wanted to try them in a recipe because he didn’t know about trying them just alone (although he definitely ended up trying them, and loved the Buffalo Wing Sauce ones the best). So after asking around and hearing about his love for anything and everything spicy, I put together this recipe to really make him sweat with a combination of jalapeno peppers, habanero peppers, sweet peppers, cheddar cheese, and our own roasted crickets.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to try edible insects or roasted crickets before, they have a slightly nutty flavor and really pair well with baked goods, chips, cheeses, etc. It is a great way to have people try them for the first time too when they have something familiar to grasp onto before trying some of the more adventurous recipes and insects!  For this recipe we used our Cricket Bites: Roasted Original flavored crickets, but you can always switch things up with one of our 4 other flavors or even try our Worm Bites too made of roasted mealworms.

Ingredients:

1 bag of chips
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1 jalapeno pepper
1 habanero pepper
1 sweet pepper
1 pack of Cricket Bites: Roasted Original

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Start by slicing your peppers into round slices and remove any seeds.
  • Next start layering your nachos. We started with the cheese and choose a few different combinations of peppers, but feel free to play around with them or trying just cheese and crickets too.
  • Place your prepared chips on a baking sheet and place in the oven for 5-7 minutes until the cheese is melted. Enjoy!
