This past week our cricket Flours team was busy preparing our final research and prototypes for the Portland State University’s Clean Tech Challenge.  Our team had 90-days and a small grant to research a new clean technology as part of an state wide competition available to university students here in Oregon.  As we neared the final date for the project, we knew that we wanted to not only show a new type of clean technology but we also wanted to see it in action.  So we partnered with two different Oregon based companies to use some of our cricket flour and cricket protein powder products in their stores to show the different types of applications.

The final competition took place over 3-days, with the first day opening at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI).  We had a full demo booth and even had samples made from Voodoo Doughnuts and Sesame Donuts showcasing our new doughnut flavors that we crafted together using cricket protein and roasted crickets.  Here is a video of some of the demo booths and our own Cricket Doughnuts that made it on air with Keely Chalmers and the KGW Channel 8 news covering the competition.

Voodoo Doughnuts created a Bavarian Cricket Cream Doughnut with rice crispies, roasted crickets, and a peanut butter drizzle on top with chocolate icing, and then a cricket powder infused Bavarian cream filling.  With Sesame Donuts we wanted to use the powder as a topping and created a Vanilla Caked Cricket Doughnut that you can seen in the photo.  Both were amazing, and thank you once again for everyone that was able to come out and try the new products!
